Thesis Statement

According to Linda Overstreet writer of "Negative Body Images, Society and Media," "chances are that you will know at least two people who will commit suicide during their teen years".(Overstreet, 2003, 221) These may or not be people who are in one's circle of friends.

What one person may see of another could be absolutely false from a distinct issue of view. Most cultures of today are obsessed with personal look and propel their lives to producing themselves flawless, visually. In American cultures, persons most routinely get tattoos, piercing and plastic surgery in alignment to gaze like the rest of those in their culture. In African cultures, persons stretch their skin, tattoo themselves with tribal symbols and even change their skeletal part structure in alignment to apply to others.

Introduction

According to The American Heritage Dictionary, beauty is "the value that gives pleasure to the mind or senses and is associated with such properties as harmony of pattern or color, excellence of artistry, truthfulness, and originality." By that definition attractiveness can be seen as numerous things, not just people, which in fact it is. In reality, persons only look at others when it comes to attractiveness because of the natural instinct to judge.

Many of the most predominant cultures that use body modifications to enhance their way of life or look are stationed in Africa. Egypt is the most routinely renowned homeland in to the North Africa that started the custom of body piercing. The reasons are as diverse as the patterns and processes themselves: they seek to characterize themselves and their positions in society, to affirm their allegiance to a god or to a cause, to conform to the customs of their assembly, to shock or amuse, or simply to make them more beautiful. In Africa, there are numerous situations in which a tribe constituent or one-by-one may change the way they look. For demonstration, there is something profoundly satisfying for a bride to have her hands and feet decorated on the day before her marriage with attractive elaborate Mehndi designs. She is revered by the marriage party and henna is used as a means of idolizing her.
