Positive & Negative Shades of Wolverhampton University

Founded in 1835, the University of Wolverhampton is situated on four campuses over the West Midlands and Shropshire, (University of Wolverhampton, 2012) with around 23,000 students, including a rising number from all over the Europe and abroad. (the guardian, 2012) Being a new postgraduate student, I was quite nervous while going to be a part of new environment, however, the experience at Wolverhampton is so welcoming. Everyone at the university is there to help you out. There are certain factors, what I think make Wolverhampton distinct from other universities. These include

The use of technology

Interactive pedagogies

A social learning environment

Sense of belonging, and

Cultural Diversity

Sense of belonging is a feeling that there is feeling of concern among members to one another and to the group as well and a mutual belief that needs of members will be fulfilled through their dedication to be together. (McMillan & Chavis, 1986, p.6-7) At Wolverhampton, I sense a feeling of connectedness into the fabric of surrounding people, places, and things. Students are accommodated in a way that we feel ourselves to be an indispensible and integral part of the university.

The sessions at Wolverhampton are very interactive as the lecturers are very helpful, empathetic and approachable. The interest of the students are retained by the lecturers by being dynamic, enthusiastic and engaged. Interactive pedagogies are considered to develop a critical and reflective thinking capacity in students through continuous engagement (thus facilitating them to develop their perspectives in an interpretative, normative, and critical manner on the theoretical and practical aspects of their discipline). (Connor Sean, n.a., slide. 6) I believe that these interactive and thought provoking lectures enable me to develop my viewpoint in a better way.
