Introduction

The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) is a professional certification board which certifies counselors as having met standards for the general and specialty practice of professional counseling established by the Board. The counselors certified by NBCC may recognize with distinct professional associations and are often permitted by jurisdictions which promulgate codes of ethics. The NBCC code of ethics presents a negligible ethical standard for the professional demeanor of all NBCC certificants.

The primary obligation of licensed counselors is to respect the integrity and promote the welfare of clients, whether they are assisted individually, in family units, or in group counseling. Licensed counselors also strive to assist the respective agency, organization, or institution in providing competent and ethical professional services. The acceptance of employment in an organisation suggests that the certified counselor is in affirmation with the general principles and values of the institution. Therefore, the expert activities of the certified counselor are in accord with the objectives of the institution. If the certified counselor and the boss do not agree and will not reach affirmation on principles that are reliable with appropriate counselor ethical perform that is conducive to purchaser growth and development, the paid work should be terminated. If the situation warrants farther action, the declared counselor should work through professional associations to have the unethical perform changed.

Ethical demeanor among expert aides (i.e., both certified and non-certified counselors) must be expected at all times. When a declared counselor has concerns as to the ethical demeanor of professional colleagues, the declared counselor should take action to try to fix this condition.
