2.1 History Web development

The term Web development is used for several different activities which are linked to the developing of a website especially for the WWW which is the World Wide Web or also called as an internet (American Medical Association 2003, p.388). The Web development strategies include the business of the e-commerce, the web designing, the web content development, the client and server-side coding and also the configuration of the web server (Sieving 2009, p. 550).

Every individual has a different understanding of the term web development and hence its meanings differ. Few of the experts consider web development as the process of designing the website while others considers the technicalities as the website development (MaKinster 2003, p. 256). Few of the experts even don't consider the process of coding as part of web development (Abanumy 2005, p. 65).

Web development ranges from the simplest tasks to the highly professional and complex applications (Fraternali 2000, p. 12). This can include the very simple plain-text page to the complicated applications of the web-based internet, or social networking (Kobsa 1998, p. 65). Business firms and companies organize a team of several hundreds of people who are related with the job of the web development (Taylor 2002, p. 43).

There are two major kinds of web development as per the research (Moreira 2004, p. 411). Both types have equal importance (McIntyre 2002, p. 14). The first type of web development is the client side coding and the other is called the server side coding (León 2011, p. 153). Generally the task of graphic designing and web designing is the duty of the web developer (Parise 2005, p. 54 Ruspantini 2005, p. 43). The web developers also have the duty of the adding the content and designing the information architecture of the website (Saito 2006, p. 12). The web developer is also responsible for making the website user friendly and easily accessible for the user (Shevell 2003, p. 339).

2.2 Importance of web development

The web development is very important thing (Karagol 2001, p.65). Nowadays everything from business to entertainment to shopping is done via internet (Hackett 2005, p. 42). The internet revolution has changed our way of living (Barbur 2010, p. 323). Hence, web development is very important for every field be it business or entertainment.
