Introduction

Inhumane behavior and inequalities are rooted in almost every society of the world. One of the numerous unequal conditions is referred men and women throughout the world have been imprisonment. Over the last two decades, the main responsibilities of prisons have changed rapidly. The population in prisons has risen and their compositions have altered (Pollock, 2002). The legal structures of many countries have changed and the final form of modern prisons was formed in 20th century. The prisons were originally designed in such a way that every individual has his or her own cell with an unglazed window situated above the eye level.

By the passage of time, the evolution was brought in the life of prisons and plenty of developments were made. In the ancient world, the prisoners were treated in abusive way and they were tortured in different styles. These days, the prisons are so much administrated that the prisoners are even provided with the medical facilities (Johnson, 2003). Every prison gives medical assistance to the prisoners with the help of nurses or visiting doctors. Though, a private medical doctor is not being allowed in order to provide medical facilities to observe a prisoner.

Discussion

The capital punishment was an important part of the prisons` system and just not for the serious crime of the society. Pickpockets, burglars and even horse thieves were accountable for punishment by hanging or burning at the public places. But now, the prison systems punish the criminals with respect to their offenses and seriousness of the crime (Schmalleger, 2008). Death penalty is announced in case of the murder or for most serious crimes. Life time imprisonment is another option which is given to the dangerous criminals in order to save public from their acts. Law enforcement agencies are also so much organized that they monitor the activities of the suspects and put them in prisons accordingly. It is considered that the prison life has changed for most of the people that entail people with in prisons.

In addition to this, if the prisoners changes for the better, they can turn out to be productive and good people of the society. Moreover, this requires continuous struggle from the prisoners together with the cooperation from concerned authorities.
