Extended Day and/or Extended Learning

Introduction

Moral education has always been a persistent aim of education. The functions of school and colleges are not only to make students smart but also to make them ethically good. However, with the impact of modern era, the significant aim of schools and education is drawn away to the back end and only smartness and skills are highlighted. The return of modern plus moral education is to make attention towards the ethical and social aspects of society which will lead to a balanced and equal environment. As modern education has to deal with various topics of crime and violence, so it is very important and necessary for the schools to play an outstanding and exceptional role in the formation of children. The increase in these crimes and violence is also due to the lack of resources and inadequate behavior towards the ethical aspects in the schools. A modern approach and method is required to overcome this intense problem of child abuse and violence. An approach of extending the learning in schools can be implemented. This can be done by extending an hour of the learning in the education system, in which moral and ethical topics should be discussed. The aim of this extension in learning should be filling the gap between students and ethical topics, so an outcome of a well mannered and equal society can be expected (Mariaye, 2005, p. 1).

By this method the children become a victim of drug abuse, violence and social crimes. Along with that, violence and social crimes in schools has become a real disaster. Hostility and lack of understanding in early stages of life are the strong factors connected in the aggressive actions of kids and youth. An immature or critically spoiled moral ethics and spiritual blankness have been created in the children with aggressive behavior. The spiritual blankness has been found in the students as lack of worship, significance, love, trust, understanding, and totality (Rayburn, 2004, p. 356). In February 2010, a research was conducted in Washington on the ...
