Introduction

Antwone Fisher is a touching and genuinely affecting film about Antwone Fisher. The movie has inspirational ambitions that make it be undoubtedly a popular movie. This therefore, allows Washington the opportunity to move beyond such sentimental fare. Fisher is a sailor in the Navy who dreams of being welcomed by a big family to extremely massive feast. However, his dream is interrupted with the sound of bullet shot. He comes from his sleep on a ship in port where he is encountering hardship controlling his anger, which most of the time causes violent outburst against his workmates. His violent nature causes him to be fined and forced to see a psychiatrist (Jerome Davenport) by the commanding officer who could no longer accept such a character in his team. Fisher did not take the idea from the commanding officer so serious and thus, he spends most of his time in silence. However, as time goes by, Fisher begins to court a fellow officer by the name of Cheryl. He later feels free with the doctor and opens up to him, disclosing a terrifying story of molestation at the hands of his adopted family, in particular a Mrs. Tate. As Fisher progresses his session with the doctor, he also continues to see Cheryl, although at the same time having difficulties controlling his temper. Therefore, the doctor is certain that Fisher`s comfort can only be achieved when he finds his real or biological family (Mim, 2003).

Analysis of the Story

Fisher`s story demonstrates his psychodynamic personality and his unique character traits. His relationship and the doctor, Davenport is the key and there is a feeling that Fisher has knowledge of what need to be done so that he can control or eliminate his problem of anger. This is demonstrated when Fisher faces up the people who had brought him down and thus, confronts the personal demons that have disturbed him for many years. It is a moving series of events that result to an overblown but deserved denouement. Fisher`s best was brought out by someone who willingly agreed to offer him help, even if a limited amount of time. For instance, through his sessions with the doctor, we get informed about his biological father, who passed away after being murdered by his girlfriend, and of his single mother, who managed to give birth to him while she was in prison (Duck, 2010). We are informed more about his experiences from a foster family, marked by molestation and abandonment. The foster family was marked by violence, abuse, and anger.
