Abstract

The main purpose of this report is to make a financial analysis of Compass group Plc. This paper focuses on the analysis of company's financial ratios. This paper discusses the company's profile first and then the financial calculations have been made for the company's financial data. The financial data for the profitability, investment and debt and equity turnover ratios have been calculated from the data extracted from the company's websites and annual statement. Compass Group PLC is the listed holding company for an integrated group of business that provides contract foodservice and support services to its clients. It offers its services in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Continental Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa, central Asia, and the Asia Pacific. The company was founded in 1941 and is based in Chertsey, the United Kingdom (BERRY 2007 12).

It offers various foodservice solutions ranging from free-flow restaurants to formal dining, grab and go deli and café outlets to hospitality services, and vending; and a range of support services, such as cleaning, building operations and maintenance, business and office, logistics and transport, outdoor, project management, and security. The company also operates fine dining facilities. It provides its services under the Eurest, Eurest Services, Restaurant Associates, Bon Appétit Management, FLIK International, as well as Chartwells, Scolarest, MEDIREST, MORRISON, Crothall, All Leisure, and ESS brand names. Compass Group serves business and industry; healthcare and seniors; education; sports and leisure; and defence, offshore, and remote sectors (Smith 2003 114).

Purpose of the Study

The main purpose of this study is to present a financial report of the Compass Group Plc. The company serves approximately 4 billion meals a year in 40,000 client locations

Comparing 2010 to 2009 Compass has grown revenues from 13,444 to 14,468. Most impressively, the company has been able to reduce percentage of sales devoted to the cost of goods sold from 91.85% to 91.55%. Net profit has increased from 586 to 675.
