University life is completely different from our normal school and college life. Basically, university is a place which enables us to develop our personality, learn the know-how of social life and exploring the edge with new skills and knowledge. Every person has some questions in mind when going to university about what to do in first year to be successful. Sometimes ambiguity in mind is reflected in the actions which restrict the effective growth and development ability of a person. University life provides us with comprehensive number of opportunities to build ourselves. However, life at university is comparatively tough and demanding as compare to college life. In order to survive and be successful in university there are certain things that we as a student need to address.

Attend Orientation Events

Orientation events present great insight about the university. In order to be more familiar with the university rules and understand their principles & values, it is necessary that every new student attend orientation events organized by universities from time to time (Metcalfe, 2003). I learnt about all the aspects of university life from orientation seminar as we have opportunity to discuss the issues and concerns directly with university officials. This enables us to glean guidance about aspect that creates an ambiguity for us.

Academic Learning Aspects

University is quite challenging when it comes to academics and learning. Some people have a perception that students at university level have slack in time and enough opportunity to spend their most of time in outing and fun activities (Johnston, 2010). Although the whole part of this statement is not wrong but it totally depends on how actively you manage your time. First of all, burden of studies increases on student when he joins university. I myself felt perplexed in my first year at university when I had to do number of assignment nearly in every week, with preparing for class discussion topic, reading books, and class lectures. It took me quite some time to manage my social activities and academic needs.

All students, whether new or old, should devote two hours daily on revising class lectures. This enhances your cognitive and learning capacity and does not create burden on mind. Understanding the lecture what is discussed in class expands new horizon of learning. Always make it your habit to complete your assignments before the date its due as I myself had worst experiences when I left my assignment to complete it on last day. This situation got worse when my internet connection went down at last moment and I had no time left to go some other place for doing my assignment. Teachers don't like such kind of immature behaviour at university level and deduction in semester marks also take place (Andretti, 2008).
