Florida lawsuit filed against UNUM Life Insurance

Introduction

UNUM Life Insurance is a part of UNUM group, which is one most the largest insurance company of USA. The company and its subsidiaries offer individual and group insurance program including long-term disability, short term disability, voluntary critical illness and life insurance. UNUM provident insurance insures more than 25 million people worldwide. Disability income protection insurance is one of the most important programs that offer benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to any disability.

Ms Larrine Braun had recently filed a Lawsuit against Tampa Florida District Court against UNUM Life Insurance Corporation. She filed the case through her Florida disability attorney. She alleged the company under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and that UNUM did follow employee benefit contract between the company and the client Ms Braun (Jorden, Pflepsen & Goldberg, 2006).

Explanation

Ms Braun was an old and dedicated employee of UNUM life Insurance company. Ms Braun in the lawsuit propelled that she was covered under an employee welfare plan. The plan was designed to assist the employees of the company with long term disability benefits as well as life insurance benefits. The insurance plan was managed and administered by UNUM and was funded by insurance policies.

Ms Braun requested the insurance company to issue the copy of their insurance policy, but the company did not provide the copy to her. She argued that even after continuous efforts she still have not got the copy of policies. Since the company did not provide her copy of insurance policy, she was not able to discover her benefits under the insurance policy.
