FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT OF A CLASSROOM

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT OF A CLASSROOM

Introduction

Formative assessment is a range of procedures of formal and informal assessment which is implemented by teachers to enhance the learning experiences of the students (Crooks, T. (2001). It involves quality feedback, rather than the scores for both the teachers as well as the students, focusing on the details of performance and content (Huhta, A. (2010).

Question: 1

Formative assessment is a procedure which would benefit the students overall. It would enhance the student as well as the teacher experience. In the case of Reggie, I personally think that he should implement the formative assessment in to his class. It could be argued that in the fifth class, the students are not that mature to provide accurate results of what is needed and also that the progress of the learning experience of the class would not be able to be seen in the results. However, Reggie still must go on with the implementation of this assessment. The reason behind it is that formative assessments are formed to help the student experience.

The primary aim is the benefit of the children, regardless of it being immeasurable or not. Reggie might not be complemented or awarded for his extra effort but the fact remains that the implementation is done to help the students and the teacher as well. Education, in my opinion should be an active and a selfless cause from the part of the teacher and everything must be done to enhance the student learning experience, even if takes a lot of energy. Also that formative assessment does not only help the students, it helps the teachers as well, making them better trained at their profession and allowing them to learn the needed general criteria by the students. This would help Reggie in the future as well and he would be able to establish an understanding and better connection with his pupils.

Question: 2

Performances on classroom assessments

The use of performance evaluation helps the teachers in gaining an insight which informs curricular and pedagogical decisions (Lemlech, 2006). There are various techniques to assess the performance of the students. I could indulge the students in Oral presentations, Group works, tests, student made projects as well as artwork. These are all considered to be ...
