Introduction

Diversity management is fast becoming a management approach that is being applied effectively within institutions. Managing diversity tries to build specific skills and to create policies that derive the best from each employee. Managing diversity is based on the assumption that diverse groups will create new ways of working together and have understanding in that group, profit and productivity will increase

This paper will explain what defining of diversity, diversity management and what related to diversity management in companies. To explained how's diversity management work in organization/companies and why so important. Diversity management recognizes that employees are of different ages, races, religions, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, educational levels, geographic backgrounds, physical capabilities, affluence levels and native languages.

What is Diversity?

Managing diversity is really about managing differences, and a simple training program cannot accomplish it. It is a culture change; a culture change initiated by enlightened managers who can see the energy and enthusiasm that result from capturing the best of many people and ideas. It is not enough that companies state their concern; they must take action to show that diversity is valued.

Diversity, include diverse perspectives, approaches and sensitivities of culture, gender, religion, ethnic and national origin, attitudes, socio-economic and personal differences, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, cultural power groups versus majority cultural groups, productive abilities, power, knowledge, status and forms of social and cultural reproduction.

Therefore, diversity management means the creation of internal and external environment within which these different perspectives, approaches and sensitivities are incorporated and developed in order to manage diversity in such a way that the full potential (productivity and personal aspirations) of individuals and institutions may be realised optimally.

Diversity - The Definition

Diversity can be defined as all the ways in which different individual and related along with companies. The many facets of differences and similarities of diverse employees. That differences can have a look from;

1.Personality: Because every personality from each employee is different and that can be related to, they work in organization. The unique characteristics of each individual that directly impact communication with others, which may include, patient or impatient, doer or thinker, assertive or nonassertive, listener or talker, flexible or inflexible, rational or emotional.

2.Internal: Diversity characteristics that for the most part are not within a person's control, but form opportunity, assumptions and opportunities such as, age, gender, ethnicity, race, physical ability and sexual orientation.

3.External: Social factors and life experiences that are more under a person's control and also use a significant impact on behavior and attitude. Examples of these include religion, marital status, parental status, educational background, income, appearance, geographic location, and work experience.

4.Organizational: Characteristics of a person's experience within an organization which influence assumptions, expectations, and opportunities. This may include functional level or classification, management status, department/division/unit and work group, union affiliation, work location, seniority, work content or field.
