Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Introduction

Authors often use their work to convey criticism of society. Such works of literature directly criticize specific real people or events. They are, nevertheless, a real feeling of writer's concern with issues of social injustice and wrong values. Two strong example of social criticism in literature is Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.

Dickens' novel "raises questions about the injustice done to the working class throughout childhood, Pip, and by the plight of Magwitch, is unlikely benefactor (Dickens Kriegel 680). We have presented a bleak outlook on life for those who do not benefit money, and even those with - rich Miss Havisham unlikely to change for the destruction of her heart - through the creative use of Dickens's creation, nature and language. Each goal is to say that Dickens believed the truth about the Victorian era that is, from the heartless, uncaring and frequently cruel ruling class, epitomized by Miss Havisham and Estella, to helpless and poor workers and so-called under-class(Goldie 12).

Great Expectations Social Barriers

In an ideal world would not be social barriers. All would do whatever their social or financial status. However, there is no such thing as a perfect world, the only world filled with prejudice and hatred. Theme of Great Expectations shows that social class and an abundance of money worth less, that love and family.

High social status and money do not address the needs of a happy life. Great expectations shows that people of high social class only popular among themselves(Dickens 384). The reason for this is that to maintain their social status, they should not have a relationship with the lower class people. If it is determined that they accept these people as part of society, they are their peers shun them. In addition, the money does not ensure a happy future. Money can only buy material goods. For a really happy life, you must have a healthy relationship, like Joe and Biddy. People with money and no social skills are often depressed because of lack of relationship.

Even the poorest person can lead richer lives than the richest man in the world.. Do not need money to have fun either. Poor families can entertain each other with good conversation. Low-class people get along with different people. There are no provisions on how low-class citizen who can speak, where high class people have barriers such as peer pressure and spoiled tendencies( www.dickens-literature.com). Life is much easier socially for a person who does not care about what others think about them. Message that social class and money are worth less than love and family is important to remember in daily life is the central theme of Great Expectations is very complicated.
