Introduction

For a police department to succeed and perform it duties effectively it needs to address and take into fold the support of the citizens. Without the support of the citizens police department no matter how organized and well instructed it is. It cannot achieve their set targets and goals, however, the aim of any police department is to ensure that the crime rate is curtailed and the citizens are allowed to live freely and do whatever they want to without any restriction or fear. In my opinion it is essential for any police department to craft its Mission statement very carefully since it is what the police department will stand for based on its mission statement people tends to interpret its image (Harry, Gennaro & William, 2011). Therefore, the key to any mission statement is identifying its key stake holders. In the context of this paper we will be discussing the factors form policing strategies to the mission statement of the Greenfield Police Department.

Stakeholders

As indicated earlier in the course of this paper that the key to develop an effective mission statement it needs to address the issues of the stakeholders. In the context of this paper the stakeholders being the citizens of the Greenfield. Therefore, in my opinion the citizens need to be on board before crafting the new mission statement. Since it is not possible to reach out to every single citizen therefore their representatives and can be called in order to extract the key issues which need to be resolved. However, it is also important to cater to the wide array of issues to effectively safeguard the citizen and their property.

Mission Statement

'The Greenfield Police Department with the help of the citizens aims to safeguard the lives, property and the rights of its citizens'.

Since the Mission statement tends to provide a ground for the survival of any organization or department. Therefore, each of its employees should develop an understanding for it since mission statement is the face of any organization. The police officers must develop an understanding regarding the mission statement since they tend to operate in the public sphere. Although the Police officers should realize that the fold of their duties tends to stretch much beyond the mission statement or face value (Michael, & Roger, 2009).
