Introduction

This paper intends to discuss a specific greeting encounter in campus where people are meeting each other. Various descriptions regarding the greeters like their age, gender and appearances will be provided. Moreover, the tone of greeting, body language and the assessment of relationship between the greeters will also be done in this paper. Lastly, Jakobson Model of Multi functionality of Language will be used to depict the function of the greeting exchange. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about various aspects of 'greeting' in general.

Discussion

Conducting Observations

I conducted my observations near the cafeteria of the campus. I chose that particular area within the campus because I believe that this area is supposedly most visited and crowded all the time. For the purpose of making my observations immense, I choose the area around the cafeteria. Moreover, I conducted my observations during the lunch timings in order to witness more people. I conducted my observations for around five days consecutively.

Description of Persons

The particular greeting experience I am writing about involved three girls. All the girls were about the age of eighteen to twenty years. One of the girls was extremely simple, wearing just a black simple skirt blouse. The second girl I believe was a Muslim from her appearance. She was wearing a long gown and a black scarf. The last girl seemed extremely stylish and fashionable. She was wearing skinny tight jeans, short blouse with all the accessories making her completely overdressed.

Words of Greeting Exchange

The words that were used in greeting exchange were quite interesting. All the girls hugged each other and were shouting like as if they were meeting after a long time. Girls were extremely excited to see each other that they were not even realizing what were they saying. Almost ...
