Improving Group Ethical Performance

Introduction

The compliance to moral responsibilities as a group member and how does it influence our performance mainly depends on the merger of our moral and ethical values, and the norms and the values of the organization in which we employed. Before proceeding, we shall first examine the term “ethics and morality”. Ethics related with how an honest and principled individual should act. Morals can be defined as the personal values, beliefs and opinions as to “what is right” and “what is wrong”, an individual may adopt these beliefs and values through religion, culture, peers (friends), family, social circles, etc. The term turns to morality once the person start exhibiting these values in the disciplines of life (Boatright, 2003).

Sincerity, justice, and impartiality are some of the few important variables that describe ethical behavior of an individual. Most often, the above actions are being performed by an individual, in his or her professional and interpersonal relationship. There are two ways of looking at ethics: One way is to determine whether or not something is ethical solely by the consequences of our actions or practices, the other way of looking at ethics relates to a sense of duty. It considers factors other than outcomes (Johnson, 2007).
