Health Promotion Evaluation

Introduction

Synthetic marijuana (spice) is a mixture of various herbs, which produce the same effects, as marijuana. These are marketed as safe, thus providing legal alternatives to otherwise illegal marijuana. These contain shredded and dried plant material, as well as, chemical additives, which have psychoactive effects on the brain and mind. The abuse of synthetic marijuana is done by smoking and sometimes used in drinking too. Spice affects the brain in essentially the same way as marijuana and other drugs do. It elevates mood, give a relaxation feeling, provides an altered perception. Some users also report effects such as extreme anxiety, hallucinations and paranoia. The physical effects that it has on the body include vomiting, rapid heart rate, confusion and agitation. It also reduces the blood supply to heart and raises the blood pressure (www.drugabuse.gov). People need to be aware of the adverse effects that this drug has on their minds and body. Many health care programs are designed for creating awareness among the people about such products. This paper is written to evaluate the effectiveness of the health promotion programs regarding synthetic marijuana.

There are two basic elements in all evaluation processes. They include identifying and then ranking the evaluation criteria, the values and aims and gathering the information that is necessary to evaluate the values and aims of the program and that how far are they being met (Peberdy, 1997).
