HELATH ISSUES IN YOUTH

Research Proposal

Introduction

Youth is a sector of U.K's population, where major nutritional problems exist. The health of the youth is very important for the future of any country. In United Kingdom, particularly, youth's health disorders are a growing concern, because youth constitutes the most important work force for the country. The physical changes are also psycho-social and emotional because beyond the strictly nutritional needs. Eating behaviors assume particular significance in the youth, seeking an identity and group membership. Apart from the family and the household, the government also has a significant role to play in this regard.

This research will be based on assessing the dietary habits of the Youth of U.K. and evaluating the extent to which the U.K. government is playing a part in improving upon the diet of the youth. This is particularly important for a developed country as United Kingdom, where youth makes the most important, productive and essential contribution for the country's economy. A healthy workforce is a happier, more productive workforce. Therefore, U.K. is very concerned about its future, and in order to acquire a prosperous future, health is the most fundamental component that needs consideration and attention. This research is worthwhile in order to see the dietary habits prevalent in the sector, and to see the contributions of the government in improving health related awareness and health programmes for better diet management (Yardley, 2008, p. 45-88).

As part of recent Food in Action conference organized in collaboration with The European Food Information Council (EUFIC), psychologist Andrew Hill (University of Leeds, UK) revealed a number of constitutive data on factors that promote obesity, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory failures and other health disorders among the youth. According to this study, dietary issues are well-prevalent in the youth sector of U.K., one that needs new strategies to address them (Schaalma, 2009, p. 150-187). One of the most chronic and commonly observed health disorders among the youth is that of obesity, obesity is the root cause to several other evils and disorders that impede the growth and productivity of the youth as U.K.'s citizens. Various reasons related to dieting, as deregulation of appetite, food consumption which does not correspond to hunger and food restriction, i.e. the failure to eat enough to satisfy his appetite or until to satiety, can lead to bouts with bulimia. These two factors make people more vulnerable to overeating, and ultimately weight gain.

The thesis statement for the research is given as follows:

The growing health issues of U.K.'s young population calls for a rigorous strategy by the government, to increase health awareness and implement proper, dietary management steps.

Literature Review

Health is a priceless possession, where it affects the life of an individual in many forms; it also enhances or depletes his contr8ibution to the state. Being responsible citizens, the youth cannot neglect their health, not only for themselves, but for the collective communal good, at large. U.K. government is not turning deaf ears to the miseries of the youth, especially to their health-related ...
