Introduction

Doris "Doe" Burn composed and showed "Andrew Henry's Meadow" in 1965. Her child, Mark, motivated the article while they dwelled on Waldron Island in the San Juan Archipelago in Washington State. Waldron Island had no electrical power, running water, telphones or shops of any kind. Doe would cut up timber for the blaze in her little cabin every morning. She kept a "perpetual cup of warm tea" brewing as she looked out at the attractive Canadian Gulf Islands through her studio window. Doe now inhabits on Guemes Island, not far from Waldron.
