Achieving the level 7 of the HIMSS EMR Adoption Model is a challenge towards which every growing hospital looks forward to. In the ever changing world of globalization where the medium electronic medium is employed to accomplish an advanced system of enhanced and better monitored services, the EMR Adoption Model provides a focused and an excellent step towards attaining this step. The milestone of reaching the level 7 of the EMR Adoption Model comes out as a strong challenge which needs to be accomplished for Metro Hospital located in Brisbane. The steps towards this task are long and tedious. It requires a strategy based on several short term goals in order to finally achieve the long term goal. In this case, the short term goals refer to the various stages that need to be passed before the march into level 7 is finally made.

Being a Health Informatics Professional, it has always been my dream to aim for the best, and in lieu of my profession in which I developed a strong like to work in an electronic environment. The task of driving my organization to the level 7 of EMR Adoption Model is a strong challenge which I look forwards to achieving. Having the time to achieve this milestone by 2025 allots the necessary time in realizing this challenge, though it could also seem that the time is short. However, if constant measures are in place with rigorous efforts, then there seems no imminent there of a failure. The trick is to look forward and keep working hard with an optimistic look.

The goal to achieve is along one which requires a lot of careful planning. In order to eventually achieve the long term goal, a series of short term goals need to be set and realized. The level 7 of the EMR Adoption Model is the final step before which the other steps need to be achieved. Our hospital like many others is in the transforming stage of EMR. Starting with level three at which our hospital stands, a strategy will be chalked out to ensure all the steps and procedures are followed that would see our hospital move from level 3 to level 7.

The strategy

The strategy to achieve success in each and every step til the final one need to look at the time factor which is very important as the time limit is set for the year 2025. Outlined below is the strategy that would be employed to attain success in the different levels with the time period.

Reaching Stage 3: strategy

The proper standard of clinical documentation to be achieved such as recording vital signs and flow sheets. Nursing notes to be made a part of daily duties with immediate effect, while care plan charting to be carried out.

Implementing the eMAR (electronic medication administration record) system

Implementing and integrating all these processes with CDR for providing general surgical services for the patients
