Introduction

The history of terrorism is a well known to everyone today; it is something that includes historically significant entities, individuals, and the incidents associated with terrorism. However, many scholars agree on the fact that it is somewhat a disputed term, and there are very few of those people that are labeled as terrorist describe themselves as a terrorist. It has frequently been observed during conflicts that opponents call each other as terrorists. People who are branded as terrorists are often referred to as guerrillas, freedom fighters, paramilitaries, militants and resistance movements (Walter, 2005). Terrorists are united in the range of activities and tactics that are employed by them to perform different terrorist activities these tactics involves semi covert and systemic covert warfare that are driven by the ideological basis which are often religious, political, or social. Terrorists often seek for using the propaganda of the deed of causing psychological impact on the mind of the individuals (Mark, 2003). Throughout the history it has been observed that terrorism is motivated by extreme distrust overt the political body of the society, as they fail to satisfy the requirements of a specific group of people residing in the society, and as a reaction of which the group turns against the state and its government.

Historical Roots of Terrorism in United States

When it comes to terrorism inside the state of America, it could be explained as America itself. For America terrorism is a merchandise of its issues, populations, and the conflicts that co-exist inside its borders. United States of America is unique among the other nations because of its ability of containing multitudes under the situations of relative harmony. The history of terrorism inside the state of America is motivated by the extreme distrust of democracy inside the state of America; America is the state in which the people of different races, cast, and color and creeds claim loyalty to the state. In simple words, despite the enormous variations in the expressions of terrorism, the history of terrorism inside the state of America could be explained as a violent claim of whom and what really is authentically American (Jonathan, 2003).

The history of terrorism goes far behind the 1850's, when an abolitionist by the name of John Brown practices and advocated an armed movement to slavery. During this period Brown led a series of attacks between the years 1856, to 1859, out of which two of the most famous attacks were off 1859 during the he attacked the armory of Harpers Ferry. However, later on the local forces successfully recaptured the fort and John Brown was executed for this treason. Local forces soon recaptured the fort and Brown was tried and executed for treason (Frederick, 2006).
