The paper discusses the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and suggestions for its decentralization. The point is to organize homeland security in such a way that facilitates security services in the region and at the same time cover all responsibilities.

Decentralizing the responsibilities of the department and distributing it to the states and localities can facilitate in assuring complete security of the state. Current organization of the department is showing inefficient results in dealing with their responsibilities therefore, suggestions for decentralization of the department are essential.

Homeland Security

Homeland Security is the term used for the efforts a State make to maintain its security level and ensure a peaceful and terror-free environment in the country. Special attention was given to this term in the year 2011 when a significant event of terrorist attack took place in the United States. This measure for security is adopted by the State to take preventative measures for combating terrorism and recovering process after any damage is caused by terrorist attacks. Response to disasters and immigration checks is also covered under the scope of Homeland Security.

The incident of 9th September, 2001 left its mark in the history of United States of America increased demand for Homeland Security policies. Establishing a department specifically to deal with this concern was the government's priority. The protection of the nation became necessary to maintain the right balance security (Carafano and Sauter, 2005).
