Natural Horsemanship verses Breaking Horses the old way

Natural Horsemanship verses Breaking Horses the old way

Introduction

The topic is about the use of natural horsemanship which is the modern technique of handling your horse. Another name for natural horsemanship is Horse Whispering as well. This is where the unbroken horse is taken into a round pen and worked with for many hours. During this time it is saddled, bridled, and ridden, using techniques that work with its instinct rather than against it. Although this is wildly popular at the moment, unless repeated daily, its effects are short lived. David Ellis, Premier Instructor for Parelli Natural Horse-Man-Ship, said in his 2001 interview with Horse Preview Magazine that, "People can see results within a few hours, but like learning a new language, the time it takes to get proficient depends on the time you put in."

Breaking horses the old ways mean that training or handling the horse using the techniques which were used in the past. The old-fashioned way is referred to as "breaking" a horse, and in the old days, it means breaking the horse's spirit. A horse is roped, choked, thrown, tied, saddled while tied up, then released and chased. Once exhausted, a rider mounts and rides what was left of the horse's fighting instinct out in a corral or round pen. Once the horse is utterly exhausted, it accepts the rider and learns to give to basic aids. This is a cruel method that teaches horses to fear humans rather than trust them.

In fact, who engage in traditional training methods are sincere horse lovers, their horses and the treatment of many of the best when it comes to food and overall care. (Bekoff, 2002)

However, those who practice natural horsemanship to see the horse a little bit different. This is true; horses are animals, so they do not agree with the reasoning and logic of complex human capacity. However, this does not mean that they are only "dumb" animals. People who practice natural horsemanship (in various forms of it) share a core philosophy; we must see the horse, because they see themselves through the eyes of a horse, that is. (Birke, 2007)

It can also be defined as "to arouse their instincts and herd mentality. And the horse work philosophy of" natural horsemanship way as when the horse, it seems ...
