Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) consigned his well renowned A House Divided talk upon triumphant the nomination for U.S. Senate in the 1858 Illinois Republican Party Convention. Though he lost to Stephen Douglas, a Democrat, the hard-fought rush established Lincoln in the nationwide political scene. He was voted into agency President in 1860.
