Introduction

It is said that, "hybrid" is product of elements of different nature. In the automotive sector this definition applies to hybrid engines that combine results from engine heat combustion with a conventional electric motor. The purpose of the application of hybrid engines in cars is to minimize the level of emissions and the consumption of fuel, without having to connect to a network power to recharge. This seems to be the bet and trend of car manufacturers. In the market today there are already several brands of builders who are adding some kind of hybrid engine in various prototypes and models of cars, among which may include the following: Audi Duo, Chrysler Citadel DYNALTO Citroën, Fiat Multiple Hybrid, Ford P2000 HEV, GM IMPACT ADVANCE SUW Mitsubishi, Renault and Volvo ECC VERT (Anderson & Anderson, 2010).

The basic features of design of these cars with hybrid engines are incorporating small displacement engine and a body built in materials with optimized aerodynamics light to minimize the strength of the wind, and thus compensate for the weight of the batteries. The marketing of these hybrid cars aims to achieve a wide range of advantages over traditional cars, without causing substantial losses in both vehicle performance, such as autonomy and security. Hybrid vehicles are classified into two types: parallel, both the thermal and the electric motor can spin the wheels, and series, the internal combustion engine generates electricity and traction is provided by the electric motor only.

In the case of gas-electric hybrids, when the internal combustion engine works, what does with its maximum efficiency?
