History of Complementary and Alternative Medicine

United Kingdom has been a destination of choice for migrants, scholars and travellers since long. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practices have been part of the legacy of these travellers and immigrants. All therapies that attempt to use self healing powers of the body by amplifying the natural recuperative process fall under CAM practices. CAM is being used as a parallel field of medicine in the Great Britain since as early as the nineteenth century.

Hypno-Psychotherapy

History

The history of Hypno-psychotherapy spreads over centuries. Franz Mesmer (1734 - 1815) is acknowledged as the forerunner of modern Hypno-psychotherapy. Several doctors successfully used this practice during the nineteenth century to treat psychological illness. Surgical procedures were also aided by Hypno-psychotherapy during the same period. The benefits of hypnotherapy remain popular to date. Even after Freud's use of psycho analysis displaced it, hypnotherapy was continued to be widely used as an adaptive form of therapy. Hypno-psychotherapy is the result of integration of hypnotherapy and any prominent psychological school of thought. While Hypno-psychotherapy is used for more complex problems such as psychological, emotional and physical, hypnotherapy may be used for relaxation therapy purposes.

Definition

The basic technique of Hypno-psychotherapy is the usage of hypnosis to induce a person into a state where they are extraordinarily relaxed. In addition, their awareness is also altered. New ideas and alternative perspectives are readily accepted by the unconscious mind in this state. The basic idea of this process is to use autonomic processes for the maintenance of the body by accessing the unconscious mind through hypnosis.
