Impact of Child Abuse and Neglect on Temperament

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out an association between the abuse and negligence in childhood and temperament of the abused children in the long run of life. Research continues to document that there are long-term social, physical, and psychological effects for adults who were abused during childhood. Depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are not uncommon for adults who were abused as children. This research is also intended to get an insight of the matter. A questionnaire will be developed and children demonstrated the signs and symptoms of depression and mental ill- being will be interviewed to confirm the hypothesized statement.

Impact of Child Abuse and Neglect on Temperament

Introduction

The focus on the type and extent of child abuse and neglect, in the last 3/4 decades, has been linked with a heightening interest in the impact on development of children, their wellbeing and mental health. Since the 1960s, child maltreatment is a prevalent phenomenon that has turned out to be a matter of immense political and academic concern (Finkelhor, 1996), however the issue of child maltreatment still keeps on. The quandary of child abuse is a bit grim for our society, state, and the entire community. It is predictable that earlier than reaching the 18 years of age, one out of four female children and one out of six male children are subjected to child abuse. Unfortunately, only one out of ten children report their abuse incident to their elders or parents and others do not do so because of the shame they feel and this is the most major issue of the ...
