Incorporating Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development into the Justice System

Introduction

In simple words justice may be referred to as a principle of being just, morally righteous. The concept of justice has three elements the first being interpersonal adjudication which has to do with a person's right and duties, resolving conflicts between people. Justice is an interpersonal phenomenon. The second element is that a person should be punished only if they are at fault. The last element of the concept of justice is that there should be an emphasis on procedures. Justice can also be understood from that fact that when people are treated fairly according to how they should be treated justice is treated every individual equally. The concept of justice can be applied on almost every aspect of a person's lives (Cooray, n.d).

Discussion

Justice is treating people fairly and punishing only those who are at fault. Criminal justice refers to a system of practices and government institution that directly control, deter and mitigate crime and sanctioning those who have committed a crime by violating laws. In general terms criminal justice is giving justice to a person who is a victim of any injustice. Criminal justice systems have the following components the legislative system which includes the laws that need to be followed. The judiciary system includes courts and institutions that administer matters pertaining to law. Lastly the correctional system which consists of prison and other correctional facilities. Justice in law enforcement has much importance since there wouldn't be any law enforcement if it wasn't for justice. The legislative system of the criminal justice system creates laws if any person fails to follow those laws he needs to be punished.
