Inter Group Conflicts in Detention Center

Abstract

This assignment is about the delinquent adolescent boys, who were in the detention center. They were facing intergroup conflicts because of the psychological trauma they encounter because of the behavior of the people over there. They were have to face the discrimination, stereotype and biases which transfers in them the negative behavior and they started reacting fiercely to everyone. Thus, I as a counselor am going to over look the main reason behind their weird behavior, the consequences of these behaviors, as well as the strategies which could help them to step out of this situation.

Introduction

I am a counselor of the detention centre, and my current goal is to minimize the intergroup conflicts which were arising because of the discrimination, stereotype, social status, biases, discrimination, prejudice, etc. These behaviors were impacting devastatingly in the intergroup conflicts. These boys are young, and they take things very seriously.

Factors Influencing Inter Group Conflicts

Stereotype

Stereotyping is a commonly used act in prisons which assumes that the criminals are all the same, they all are a danger to another people, and they are equally violent. However, this is not the case (Hyott, et.al, pp. 16-62). Apart from the criminals who are extremist, like rapist, killers, armed robbers, etc. there are also the criminals who are just their because of some unethical non violent practice, like drugs-related officer, juvenile offenders, etc. there are some prisoners who do not want to correct themselves, and they are just there for the sake of punishment and because they are caught, however, there are prisoners who learn from their punishment and wants to quit the cause (Hewstone, et.al, pp. 525-604, 2002).
