Thesis Statement

“The interpersonal relations between doctors and nurses are of great importance as it is part of professional association and teamwork in health care field.”

Introduction

It is considered that doctors and nurses cannot serve the health care field individually. Both of them are an essential part of the system. In health care field, inter-professional exercise means that care of patient is a dual effort by both doctors and nurses, who have to perform their tasks in synchronized way (Baker et al., 2006). Inter-professional relation is one of the important aspects of forming any system (organisation) or in other words an organisation cannot exist without it. This relation is formed with a combination of mutual aims, which have to be accepted by all the members coming under the association.

Most of time it has been observed that doctors don't pay attention to the initiative or advice given by nurses, which creates a negative impression on their inter-professional relations.

Although, this act should be avoided by the doctors as it limits the productivity and performance of the system. Nowadays, it has been recommended by most of the health care institutions that both doctors and nurses should treat each other with equality and not with domination (Svensson, 1996)

Professional relations among doctors and nurses have often found as problematic and a hurdle to effective associative exercise. Discrepancies in association and communication among the health care professionals are creating negative effect on the patient's outcomes.

Healthcare managers, policymakers, clinicians and practitioners are well aware of this growing notice in improving the inter-professional relationships.

Identification

To achieve the required quality results in an effective and efficient way in a composite collection of health care services, inter-professional relations are taken as universal strategy. It facilitates the information flow, coordination and stipulation of health care sector. The power of the relationship among the nurses and doctors is not entirely one sided. The difference between both of them is based on the experience, knowledge and medical profession (Mackay, 1993). Both of them are trained to support each other in order to provide quality treatment to the patients. The purpose of their service is to treat the patients and help them in coming out their health issues. If they are not having good professional relations than they can never satisfy the patients need adequately.

According to Porter's four models of doctors and nurses interaction in the past nurses has shown obedience in terms of providing support to the doctors and patients but in return they were not compensated accordingly. Informal concealed decision making was played by the doctors and on the other hand the nurses were played informal unconcealed decision making in the health care profession.
