ABSTRACT

Advancement in technology and the demand for higher standards of learning have resulted in the shift from traditional learning, that involved the teachers presenting information to students using chalks and boards, to the modern interactive learning process that involves the use of technology in learning environment as well as encouraged interaction between the teacher and the students, and among the students to enhance increased understanding of the study topics. As such, the use of interactive media in education has become preferable in many institutions of learning due to its effectiveness in the creation of high quality learning environment for all the students. In addition, the important features of interactive media; the ability of the user to control information delivery, as well as increased interactivity are favorable in the creation of an effective and integrated learning environment. The explanation of some learning concepts with visual elements and the online acquisition of additional learning materials are further advantages which have been associated with the use of interactive media in institutions of learning to enhance the effectiveness of the teacher facilitated but student driven approaching to learning. To this end, this research is an exploration of the existing scholarly literature on the effectiveness of interactive media in the implementation of project based learning in higher institutions of learning. The main objective of this research is to apply interactive media in a project based learning environment of higher institution. The research also aims to find the drawbacks and benefits of implementing the project based learning in the institutions.

Project Based Learning

According to Geier et al. (2008) Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teacher facilitated and a student driven approach of learning where students participate in the process of learning through asking questions, which have aroused their natural curiosity.
