Interest Group

Introduction

A group of individuals concerned with a specific issue or agenda. Interest groups seek to influence legislators to either adopt or favor their particular cause. Interest groups may go by a number of different names, including lobby group (perhaps the second most common term for them), advocacy group, pressure group, or special-interest group. Interest group members may share a variety of disparate political outlooks or personal concerns but are ultimately united by a single issue (Robert, 15-17).
