International Standards Organization

The International Organization for Standardization or ISO was created after the Second World War (23 February 1947), and is one of those organizations that are in charge of encouraging and managing (and developing) international standards relating to communication, trade and manufacturing for all industries excluding the electronics and electrical industry. The agency's goal is to promote safety standards and the standardization of product for organizations and companies around the globe. There are a number of standards based on ISO 9000 or ISO 14000 and specific to an industry or a product.

These include for example, the prevailing ISO / TS 16949 in the automobile, and the standard EN 9100 in the aerospace industry in addition to the standard ISO 13485 for medical devices. ISO 9001:2000 is a step towards management of total quality by departing from the spirit QA versions 1987 and 1994. In a sense, we can say that this new version focuses more on the merits (customer focus, system approach, continual improvement) than form. Service companies are interested in applying the prevailing ISO 9001 in conjunction with the guidelines of ISO 9004. The second phase of the life cycle of product (disposal or recycling at the end of life cycle) goes through the prevailing ISO 14001 (Arnold, K. L. 1994).

ISO 9000

The continuous quality management and the quality standards, which the ISO set are the ISO 9000. Any activity related to manufacturing, or services or good, or any organization can use the ISO certification to better the quality management processes. Implementation tools and minimum guidelines, in addition to auditing methods are part of the certification.
