Introduction to Computers

Nomenclature of a Computer

Monitor

The monitor is an output device key of the PC is the screen where they can see the information provided by the PC. There are basically two types of monitors: one is based on a CRT cathode ray tube like televisions, and the other is the LCD, which is a flat screen LCD (Tomorrow, Pp. 96-105).

Keyboard

The keyboard is a component which is given little importance, mainly in the clone computers (armed). It is a very important component because it allowed my relationship to the PC but along with the mouse.

Mouse

Like the keyboard, mouse peripheral element is the most widely used on a PC. The "mice" were the elements that have undergone changes in its design. It is difficult to see two mice models and designs of the same, even though from the same manufacturer.

CPU

In its simplest form, a computer system has a unit that executes program instructions. This unit communicates with other devices inside the computer, and often controls its operation. Given the central role of this unit is known as central processing unit CPU (Central Processing Unit).

Ram Memory

The RAM (Random Access Memory - Random Access Memory) is the main storage memory where the computer stores the data person is currently using. Physically, the memory chips are rectangles that usually go in groups to soldier's plates with "pins" or contacts. RAM is much faster and is cleared by turning off the PC, unlike the previous data can be stored permanently (Tomorrow, Pp. 96-105).

Hard Drive

The storage devices of the computer are stored in the computer operating system (for example Windows), applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the same data (files created with applications). The information also can be saved to floppy, CD and other units such as, ZIP backup drives, Iomega, tape, etc.

Floppy Disk

The floppy disk or 3.5 inch exemplifies the saying "smaller, more capable" that has characterized computer technology. A double density disk storage 3.5 inch double disc information of the same type but of 5.25 inches, for example, 720K (the current ones are of 1.44M).

Input and Output Devices

Input Devices: These are the devices those with whom person can enter information into computer e.g., Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone, and Web Cam.

Output Devices: Are all those with which the computer displays output or reply.

Explain software fundamentals and describe a variety of productivity applications.

Application Software

The Application Software are programs designed for or by users to facilitate the performance of specific tasks on the computer, such as office applications (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, management system database, or other specialized software and medical software, educational software, music publishers, accounting programs, etc..

Programming Software

Programming Software is the set of tools that allow developers to write computer programs using different alternatives and programming languages. This type of software mainly includes compilers, interpreters, assemblers, linkers, debuggers, text editors, and integrated development environment that contains the above tools, and usually has an advanced graphical user interface (GUI).
