ABSTRACT

The study focuses on the power of women in media. This report discusses on how media portray power in women. Most countries have laws that prohibit discrimination based on sex but rarely are used compared to the absence or the distorted image of women in the media. Besides the laws on the honor, privacy and others that set the limits of press freedom against citizen, ethical issues are the responsibility of the press itself or self-regulatory bodies including members from outside the profession. In some countries the government intervenes directly by establishing a licensing system which is supported by codes of conduct content in media law or by creating a commission with government representation to decide who can work as a journalist (Anderson 2007 27). While a large number of these arrangements include ethical issues, there is no known case in which a license has been revoked or has been withdrawn accreditation of a journalist due to unethical conduct on an item on equal sexes.

Background

Women are still absent in the media today. After more than a decade of research indicating that women are not satisfied with its image in the media industry has done almost nothing to change their habits. Women are clearly underrepresented and when you are describing is the follow through a narrow range of stereotypical roles. In general journalism scene raises contemporary accumulated distrust toward the media organizations, large scepticism about the ethics of journalists and suspicion of the growing power of the media. The political and public debate, both nationally and internationally, indicates that there is a demand growing new rules and regulations to ensure that the media are socially responsible. The issue of gender equality may not constitute the driving force behind this movement, but the failure of the media in this area increases public concern

Rationale

It is extremely important to raise this issue in order to know about the power of women in media. Does it really exist and provide an impact. The possibility of portraying the power of women in media is discussed.
