Cross-border attacks from south Lebanon into Israel by the Palestine Liberation association (PLO) date as far back as 1968, and pursued Israel's arrest of additional Arab territory the previous year; the area became a significant groundwork for attacks following the appearance of the PLO authority and its Fatah brigade following their 1971 expulsion from Jordan.
