The Role of Individual Differences and Social Dynamics in job satisfaction

Method

Participants and Design.

Three hundred and thrity five (335) questionairs were distributed throughout Queensland Child Proection offices. Of the questionairs distrubuted one hundred nd ninty-two (192) responses were voluntarily returned. Participants had a median age of 33 (M=34.05, SD= 3.26) with a ratio of females to males being 13:3. The study is one of a qualitative nature using a 3x2 within subjects design.

Measures and Proceedure

A quetionaire was administered to participant via their offices which was designed to measure Age, gender, Job Satisfaction, neuroticism, and Social Support.

Job Satisfaction was measured on a 5 point leikhardt like scale from 1, being Strongly Agree, to 5, Strongly Dissagree, on ten items. Six items such as “I am pleased I took this job”, and “I find real enjoyment in my job”, were scored as per above whilst 4 items such as, “I consider my job rather unpleasant” were reverse scored.

Five items based on Neurotocism scale of Eysnck Personality Inventory were used to maeasure neurotocism. Items such as, “Does your mood go up and down?,” were again rated on a 5 point leikhardt like scale from 1, not at all, to 5, a great deal.

Age and gender were recorded as a single item scale.

Data was collected and analysed using SPSS.

Result

Demography of data

The above table and cluster bar chart reveals that in our sample most of the respondents are from age group 31-35 females.

Regression Analysis

We run regression analysis among job satisfaction, neuroticism and workplace social support.

Data points of above scatter plot among Job satisfaction and workplace social support is scattered a lot which indicated that little bit variation is present in dataset.

The value of R is .312 which is close to 1 so it shows that job satisfaction, neuroticism and workplace social support variables are interrelated, change in one variable effect other variable. Job satisfaction may be effected by neuroticism or workplace social support.

Hypothesis

Ho: job satisfaction isn't effected by neuroticism and workplace social support.

H1: job satisfaction is effected by neuroticism and workplace social support.

From above ANOVA table it is observed that p value is less than .05 so we reject null hypothesis and conclude that job satisfaction is effected by neuroticism and workplace social support.

Regression Equation

Job satisfaction = 4.299 - .170*neuroticism + .120workplace social support

The Mean of Residual Predicted Value is 4.6447 and standard deviation is .16478 which shows that in predicted values the chances of variation can be controlled.

Above histogram is symmetric in nature.

From above normal probability plot (NPP) it can estimated that Job satisfaction follows normal distribution.

From Correlation table it can be observed that Pearson Correlation value (r=.265) for job satisfaction and workplace social support is .265 which shows strong relationship among these two variables.

Pearson Correlation value (r=-.235) for job satisfaction and neuroticism is -.235which shows weak relationship among these two variables.

Pearson Correlation value (r=.057) for job satisfaction and age is ...
