Knowledge is power

After entering high school my joy of reading lightened, to almost becoming non-existent. Although reading was never one of my strong points, I always tried because of how I saw my mother and her relationship with a book. When I was a young girl, my mom would take me, just like Nadia, to the library to gather books for enjoyment of reading but nothing seemed to entice me or grab my attention. Now in the computer age, my time is consumed with reading e-mails, checking my face book account, surfing Google and online shopping. When all is said and done, how much time to I really have to sit down and read a book? The time I would have spent reading books or novels has been replaced with my interest in Internet reading, which has taken a dramatic increase. I was required to read books and write reports, but there always seemed to be a shorter and quicker way to obtain the information (Piaget, 2002). By surfing the web or buying cliff notes I was able to easily and effortlessly find the main idea, characters, plot and settings. With some of the situations I am in now, I find that cutting the corners and using other resources isn't always the same as reading the book itself. It has also come with some very big consequences. Because of this, it will take me longer to read a chapter or two, find the information for a research paper, and in the end are able to understand and comprehend the information.
