Laboratory Information System

Clinical laboratories play vital healthcare service roles. Currently, laboratory tests account for 60-70 percent of all information used in clinical decision-making (Fowler et al., 2005). Today's clinical laboratory has evolved, driven by technological advances and automation much of which came from outside the healthcare industry. Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) are complex and include automated processes that interface with host information systems, other integrated clinical information systems and electronic medical records (EMRs). As a result, improving communication and reducing medical errors support the need for new Laboratory Information Systems. Comprehensive systems provide opportunities for reducing human error.
