In this assignment we will be discussing two types of leadership that is transformational and transactional leadership. We will also compare and contrast both the styles of leadership, while looking at their advantages and disadvantages of both the leadership styles.

Transformational leadership

In the transformational leadership they accomplish the modifications through motivating followers to put aside short-term interests or individuals to work mutually towards a group goal. Particularly, transformational leaders utilize single or mixture of idealised influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualised consideration, according to Roger Gill, who is the writer of “Theory and Practice of Leadership”. While the style might sound attractive, organisation are looking towards implementing the approach of transformational should first look for the pros and cons.

Assuming Follower Motivation-in this leadership it does not include situational dynamics and supposes that followers are capable of working mutually towards bigger goals. Transformational advances are not as efficient within situations where the follower does not have experience or skills essential for completing a job or not motivated towards performing without tangible and immediate rewards.

Depending on individual- mostly the strength of transformational style depends within the personality and values of the leader. Different theories, like situational or contingency, describes that leaders could support their style towards need of group for improving effectiveness. This leadership could be harder for achieving for individuals who are short of charisma and inspirational communication skills even if they hold the experience and skills essential to be in authority. Correspondingly, this theory of leadership supposes one leader that ignores the fact that a number of campaigns and organisations employ a structure of leaders for motivating the group to achieve a goal.

Consuming time- it has been observed that outcomes in transformational are time consuming. The leaders should invest energy and time convincing followers and building trust for believing in joint vision.

Possibilities for abuse- this type of leadership is dominant, but not observed to be utilized honourably. However examples like Martin Luther King Jr. And Nelson Mandela is frequently related within this term of transformational leadership, not every one who are capable of empowering or inspiring serve the definition.
