LEARNING STYLE INVENTORY

Learning Style Inventory

Introduction

Learning will never be a complete and simple set of principles or theories. There are many different ideas, theories, and principles involved with learning. Learning begins from day one in a child and can last until one dies. The length of learning depends upon the individual. Learning is more difficult for some than it is for others. Organization, motivation, awareness, attitude, expectations, and knowledge of the subject that one is trying to learn will effect how and what they learn. The Learning Style Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test would be a useful test for employees to make their employees be more effective and accurate in their productivity. In My paper I will be discussing the difference between andragogy and pedagogy, the Learning Style Inventory (LSI), and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) starts out as the Introduction to Type. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a very effective way of diagnosing ones personality. MBTI will enhance your understanding of the unique gifts that you possess, your motivation, your strengths and weaknesses and your areas of growth (Chomsky 2008). MBTI will encourage people to cooperate with one another. I feel that the MBTI is another valuable test that should be given to employees by their employers. The results will greatly affect the placement of employees into certain positions.

Learning Style Inventory (LSI)

The LSI was developed by Hay/McBer, and explains how a person learns and deals with day-to-day ideas and situations. It will give you a better understanding of how you learn in certain types of situations. Knowing how you learn can help you to work better in teams, be a better teacher, manage confrontation and help you to choose a career that is right for you and your personality. I feel that this is a very valuable resource that should be used by employers to more effectively teach their employees.

Concrete Experiences

By reading and taking the LSI I found many things out about my LSI. By taking the LSI test I found that I am labeled as an accommodating person. Accommodating people usually learn by active experiences. Accommodating learners will tend to adapt to circumstances and will also have a tendency to act on their gut feelings rather than what is logical. This has changed my views on things and helped me to better understand myself and others learning habits (Sternberg 2005). This test has shown me that I need to become a stronger leader, learn to deal with others in a more effective manner, and how to think about things before immediately acting upon them.

Reflective Observations

While looking back on my reading and LSI test results I have found that I am an accommodating learning type. Accommodating people are usually found in management, public finance, educational administration, marketing, government, and human resources positions. They tend to deal more with the public and leading others. I have worked in management, marketing, and I am currently working in the Student Accounts Office at Mountain State ...
