Introduction

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (27 January 1832 - 14 January 1898), better renowned by the ballpoint title Lewis Carroll was an English scribe, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most well renowned writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass as well as the verses "The Hunting of the Snark" and "Jabberwocky", all demonstrations of the genre of scholarly nonsense. He was High Church, inclining to Anglo-Catholicism, an admirer of Newman and the Tractarian action, (Lewis, 118) and he did his best to instill such outlooks in his children. Young Charles, although, was to evolve an ambiguous connection with his father's standards and with the Anglican Church as a whole.
