a) Student Satisfaction and the Student as a Consumer

For an institution that most important thing that is required to be effectively managed is the student satisfaction. Without satisfaction students would not be able to continue their education in any particular educational institution. Students are the consumers of educational institutions, if they are satisfied with the quality of educational services provided to them only than they would continue their studies from that institute. Satisfaction of students is an important aspect that can help an educational institution in measuring their performance (Anderson, 1994, p.186). For an educational institution student satisfaction can serve as a key indicator that can help in monitoring its effectiveness and can facilitate in improving the standard of education imparted. The complexity of learning experience can be checked by the level of student satisfaction. It is the responsibility of an educational institution to monitor the level of student satisfaction so that it can plan in a better way for enhancing and managing it (Anderson, 1994, p.186).

Another thing that can be helpful in measuring the student satisfaction is the student's learning achievement level, if an educational institution is holding larger number of students who are attaining good grades and positions in their programs then it states that the students are satisfied with the quality of education provided to them. This will encourage other students to apply in that institution and get their educational needs accomplished. The students play a similar role like a normal consumer that purchases a product from a supermarket, if he or she gets satisfied with it he or she would purchase it again and vice versa (Angluin & Scapens, 2000, p.42). If a consumer gets satisfied with the product that he or she has purchased he or she would recommend it to others in this way many people will be attracted towards that product. Same is the case with the students, if the existing students are satisfied with the quality of education that is imparted from the educational institution they will recommend others to take admission in that institute otherwise they would stop others to join it. An educational experience is of great importance in judging the student satisfaction level (Ansari & Euske, 1987, p.549). If the educational institution is able to provide quality educational experience to all the students studying in it, then these students will become the true supporters of the institution and they will try to encourage other students to get admission in it.

It is found from various research works that if the former students are satisfied with the educational institution then the institution would enjoy support of potential students as these students will communicate positive things about the institution and this will improve the presence of the institution in the market (Angluin & Scapens, 2000, p.42).
