Operational Management of the Furniture Bank

Operational Management of the Furniture Bank

Introduction

Last fiscal year was a successful year for the Furniture Bank as the organization was able to receive additional amount in the form of grants and donations. It assisted 1,363 homes to be furnished in the Great Toronto Area. The furniture Bank had $350,000 cash on its books from which $267,000 was clear. Because of the stable position of the Furniture Bank it is now time to consider the long-term goals which needed attention for a great time period.

There are three issues proposed by the board members that need solution. First is acquiring new trucks for more frequent operation. Second is to relocate the settings of the business due to the pressure from the City of Toronto and third idea is to introduce and implementing information technology for carrying out and managing various operations within the Furniture Bank. Real time information can be controlled to have an insight into vast logistics and supply chain management. More frequent delivery of furniture will increase the efficiency of on-time deliveries which will help to enhance the customer services and margin growth. As existing trucks are no longer reliable because of their old age that is why there is a dire need to buy more so that the on-time deliveries do not get affected because of any damaged trucks.

The role of transportation cannot be denied for quality service provision and it can be handled through quality management. Furniture from and to the Furniture Bank can be send and receive at right time to the right place by increasing the numbers of trucks which will satisfy the demands of customers. This satisfaction not only brings efficiency and economy in this business but will also bridge ...
