Introduction

Management is definitely a challenging job. It requires managers to have a range of skills and capabilities to manage their business as well their work force. In today's 21st century, the changing working environments and changing business behaviours have put the managers in many challenges. Today, the managers requires more and more management skills, extensive business and market knowledge and certain characteristics and attributes to cope up with the continuously changing business requirements. In today's fast pace of competition, it is very important for the managers to shape them selves according to the new shifts in organizational structures and businesses for the success of them selves as well for the success of the organizations.

There are many management issues that managers of most organizations are facing. Especially the organizations that are at learning phases are facing more difficulties as compared to the well developed organizations. Their challenges include rapid changes in technologies and businesses structures, changes in management thinking and priorities, rapid globalization and adoption of new business approaches and managerial approaches. The dramatic changes in today's organizations have developed the need to have enhanced leadership skills in managers to ensure the success of the organization and to ensure the achievement of competitive position among the competitors. Now the aims of the organizations are not limited to earning profits. To achieve the heights of success, it is necessary satisfy the employees and to ensure their best efficiency of work and best level of out puts and all these depends upon the managerial skills.

Importance of management skills in the light of scholars

Clarke, T. & Clegg, S. (1998), gives the encouraging aspect of the organizational business management. They have argued that the management aspects, along with other important aspects of businesses, now need to be considered in view of the emerging globalization and emerging latest technologies and there is the need to view them as the important factor of sustainability of organizational success. They have also focused on the importance of environmental aspects. According to them the organizations of 21st century have the strong need to focus on the ecological related approaches for the sustainability rather than just focusing on the profit and growth perspectives.

According to Karpin report revisited (2011) there are many new and old existence challenges that managers are facing and that the management competency is the basic aspect that affects the organizational performances and outcomes. Managers who manage their organizational activities in an effective manner provide the companies with the opportunities of conducting businesses at international levels. Well managed companies grab the opportunities by adopting information technologies as well as new technologies emerging globally.

Fulop, L & Rifkin (1997) have examined various theories relating to the learning organizations. Based on their research studies they divided the learning approaches in four strategies: organizational learning, learning organization, learning environment, and learning space. They have proposed that teamwork, leadership, and cultural understandings are the major dimensions of learning organization.
