Introduction

In the current business era, one of the most debated issues in the business community in management is associated with which of the categories-efficiency or effectiveness will be used to evaluate the management of organizations. This research concludes that the term "organizational effectiveness" in the best position to assess organizational management and also the different ways and concepts through which a business can be handled efficiently and effectively. Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization is one of the major responsibilities of an organization. To achieve efficiency and effectively, it is very necessary for the employees of an organization to function according to their organizational goals .This way it will help the organization to achieve its goals and objectives and excel in the business industry. One of the most important ways to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization is the performance management.

Services are an important element in the economy of any country. For example, in the year 2009, the contribution of the service sector in the total GDP was 76.9% in the USA, 79% in the UK, and 74.9% in the Netherlands (The World Factbook, 2010). This implies that lean initiatives to improve customer value and operational efficiency could have a significant impact on the economy of any country.

Whereas manufacturing firms have embraced the principles of lean manufacturing, service providers try to apply the lean principles of value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen, etc on their service activities. However, one of the main difficulties in this regard is the unique nature of operations in services. Services are intangible, perishable - cannot be stored, and are usually labor intensive. In many cases, the skills required for workers are very high and workers required for such services are also called as knowledge workers.

What is Lean?

Lean from an organizational perspective, a lean management means a continuous change in the organizational. The change may be small or big. If not monitored properly, continuous change leads to dissatisfaction among employees that may lead to poor morale or some may leave the organization. In driving change, motivating employees to accept change in a positive way is a primary responsibility of the management team. Positive, effective leadership is critical for sharing and communicating continuously the objectives of lean and explaining the need for change. Most of the organizations working in the business world today are adopting the lean business strategies to bring efficiency and effectiveness in their work. This eventually helps the organization to grow timely and establish itself in the market at a very respectable position.

The term lean services refer to the application of lean manufacturing ideas to service industries. In relation to lean manufacturing, lean services focus on the elimination of waste and the improvement of efficiency in work processes.
