Summary of Plot of Measure of Measure Play

Vincentio was the duke of Vienna, but he was not happy about the political situation of Vienna. He left the Vienna, took over the Vienna into strict government. Angelo was the new duke of Vienna in the replacement of Vincentio (Shakespeare et al, 2010).

Claudio was a gentle man, and he married with Juliet. In the same time, marriages were banns in advance. Juliet and Claudio had no enough money to fulfill the legal requirement of marriage. Claudio was arrested by government for the punishment (Shakespeare et al, 2010).

Duke Vincentio left the Vienna; Angelo was a new duke of Vienna. Isabella is Claudio's sister, a religious novice, and attempts to convince to Angelo about Claudo. Angelo finds himself proposing a deal of sex with Isabella: Claudio's head for her maidenhead (Shakespeare and Bawcutt, 2008). She refuses. The Duke, who has been wandering about town disguised as a friar, learns of it and readily persuades. Isabella to go through with the play's notorious bed trick: a midnight switch, maidenhead-for-maidenhead, Angelo's former fiancée, Mariana, disguised as Isabella, substituting for Isabella herself. Mariana did it, but Angelo was wiser and he did not release Claudio. The Duke then switches heads—another prisoner's for Claudio's—and makes plans for a spectacular return to town. Angelo was brought to justice, in a manner of speaking. What with one thing and another, the Duke proposes to Isabella. Isabella did not reply his proposed, but while she accepted his proposal for marriage (Shakespeare and Bawcutt, 2008).
