Importance of Mentor

The mentor is a teacher, a guide, a sage, and most of all a person acting the best he can in a full and compassionate for his disciple. The question is whether he would be real or a catalyst. It is much more an art than a science. The most powerful and most difficult task is to be a mentor and authentic as well. It is a development effort: develop mentors to the disciples; the disciples are developed with mentors. It can be achieved through a two-way relationship: through synchronized efforts of two people. It is based on a philosophy of true partnership. (Allen, 2003, pp.465-486)

Mentor, defined in the dictionary as "guidance counsellor or another" A mentor is simply someone who helps someone to learn something that would otherwise have learned less well, more slowly, or had not learned. There is no power; no mentors are figures of power. The new leader's role is to partner, which supports employees. Mate implies reciprocity. The partner shares the authority with someone and it denotes community partner's duties. The fellowship consists of relationships that do not involve power. The organization of the future will be more like a circle, with customers in the centre and all employees working as partners to service. Mentors leaders are always looking for ways to help its partners to develop. As mentors, they are also people who learn; learn from others and from others. Mentors are model employees in learning organizations of the future. (Billett, 2003, pp.105-113)
