MEXICAN DRUG WAR

Mexican Drug War

Abstract

Drug-related violence in Mexico has spiked in latest years as drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) have strove against for command of smuggling routes into the United States. Drug trafficking issues are famous in Mexico because the homeland has for at least four decades been among the most important producers and suppliers of heroin, marijuana and (later) methamphetamine to the U.S. market. Today it is the leading source of all three drugs and is now the leading transit homeland for cocaine approaching from South America to the United States. Although previous Mexican governments had accommodated some drug trafficking in the homeland, when President Felipe Calderón came into agency in December 2006 he made battling the Mexican drug trafficking organizations a peak priority. He rose spending on security and sent thousands of troops and federal policeman to combat the DTOs in states along the U.S.-Mexico boundary and all through the country. In response to the government's crackdown, the DTOs have responded with escalating violence.

Discussion

The war against drugs in Mexico began in the news recently by the personal effort of Mexican President to eliminate the power of the drug after his selection in 2006. Then, during the Mexican Revolution in 1910 - took one of the first great migrations from south to north while Mexican refugees sought a respite from the bloodshed. On the American side, memory tends to be shorter and consists of headers associated with illegal immigration, or news about the increasing violence in the realms of arms trafficking and drugs (Jordan, 1999).

The construction of fences and walls are potent symbols, but have not deterred the poor migrants seeking work, only a sick economy in the US apparently does. What we do get the barriers is to make the journey of immigrants more difficult and more dangerous, increasing mortality ...
