Introduction

The topic under study relates to the charges levied against Microsoft. It includes the self-analysis of the charges levied, opinion about the validity of the charges and the acting approach of Microsoft in order to excel.

The charges levied against Microsoft were related to antitrust complaints filed by a group of its competitors with the European Commission. These changes delayed Microsoft's hope of ending the European Union competition. A committee called “European Committee for Interoperable systems joined the commissions in the antitrust case against Microsoft. The accusations that the rivals filed against Microsoft were related to its business practices in which Microsoft uses its dominance in the operating systems (Alan, 2001). According to the charges, Microsoft promotes other products, which distracts competitors; need to develop their own applications. Moreover, another notable charge was that according to the rivals, Microsoft tries to own the internet with the launch of different applications, such as XAML web application language. Microsoft claims the use of this language as to be able to run only with Microsoft windows.

Self-Analysis

In my opinion, this act of Microsoft is the use of its monopolistic power in the operating system software. Microsoft has used this power in order to maintain its monopoly in the industry. Apart from that, this act might also be a strategy, to outcompete rivals from the industry. Although, outcompeting rivals might be harmful for the competitors in the long-run but, it would be beneficial for Microsoft to maintain its dominance. Moreover, this use of power from Microsoft will help the company to make a monopolistic attempt for browsing software market. On the positive side, these actions from Microsoft can be viewed as the business practices in order to innovate its product and maintain market share.
